Chamber of Trade Meetings
We look forward to welcoming new and existing business owners at our bi-monthly meetings.
Despite the popular myth, it's not just town centre shops that can belong to the Chamber of Trade. While the health and viability of the high street is critical to the wellbeing of the town, membership of the Chamber is available to anyone who is in business in the area, whether they have a high street premises, a trading address in the locality or simply a client base here. The only requirement for members is to have a passionate belief that Abergavenny should reach its full potential in every way, as a business centre, as a visitor destination and as a place to live.
The Abergavenny Chamber is a progressive and proactive group of business owners, shop keepers, tradesmen and professionals with the shared aim of promoting the area to its best advantage, while protecting those aspects of the town that make it unique. Members are keen to encourage leisure and commercial visitors, trade links and incoming investment, and they are working to build a functional and productive relationship with the public, with other town groups, with Gwent Police, and with the Town Council and County Council. There is also a strong social and philanthropic aspect to the Chamber and new members are always welcome to join our friendly group.
Meetings - when and where?
The Chamber of Trade meets (usually) on the third Wednesday of every other month January/March/May/July/September/November) at 6pm at the Angel Hotel, 15 Cross Street, Abergavenny and attendance is free. Visitors are welcome to attend one or two meetings before committing themselves to membership so they can see how the meetings operate and how beneficial membership of the Chamber could be.
It is not necessary to speak at a meeting unless you really want to, and members are invited to suggest topics for discussion should they wish to do so. There are guest speakers several times a year on a variety of informative topics - anyone wishing to address the members should contact the president or secretary via the email address shown below.
Items can be added to the agenda of the forthcoming meeting (provided that the existing agenda permits it) by emailing the secretary or president at least fourteen days in advance of the meeting at firstname.lastname@example.org, or concerns can be raised under 'Any Other Business' on the night, time permitting. Urgent matters can be made the subject of an extraordinary meeting of the Chamber, either of the full membership or of the executive committee. The executive committee meets on an ad hoc basis when necessary and is composed of volunteers who are willing to offer a little extra time to the Chamber, to ensure that important matters are dealt with quickly.
Membership fees are due after the AGM in March and are currently as follows:

Renewal of subscription
£52 per annum per business, renewable by Direct Debit.
