The M4 from London, the South-East and Home Counties, then the A449/A40;
The A40 via the Cotswolds, Gloucester and Monmouth, straight into town;
The M6, M5, M50 and A40 from the North and Midlands, or through the Welsh Marches by way of the A449, A465 or A466, then A40 into town;
The M4/A4042, A465 or A40 from the west, all good routes that bring you right to the edge of town.

By Rail:
Abergavenny is served by fast and frequent train services on the Cardiff to Manchester line. Connections from London Paddington, Bristol and the south west of England are available at Newport. Connections from Birmingham are available at Hereford. There are also useful connections into Ledbury in Herefordshire that offer great savings if you can be collected or make your way from there by road to Abergavenny (A449/A40).
